Deoxyribonucleic acid                                                                                                   DNA

Source

The exact source is not known. However, some data is as follows.

Homeopathic DNA is derived from various sources and includes a wide range of DNA molecules with poorly characterised nucleotide sequences.

In an attempt to increase the specificity and safety of gene targeting by highly diluted substances, Dr. Marichal developed a gene targeting system that used only highly diluted DNA molecules with defined sequences. Remedies made with DNA molecules were designed to target immune response genes to help fight infections that were non-responsive to antibiotics and control the infectivity of viruses.

 Proving

DNA was proved by Phillip Robins. Proving protocol was as follows.

The proving was conducted following guidelines set out by Jeremy Sherr and Kees Dam. All female provers were asked to verify they were not pregnant by testing if there was any chance of that possibility. The proving was conducted blind, with only the co-ordinator knowing the remedy. All provers had a supervisor who was an experienced homoeopath and himself a prover too.

After one month the group of provers and supervisors met and the provers described their experiences. A discussion occurred on the common theme before the remedy was revealed.

Proving code

NO:CS:XXX:OS:DD:HH:M where: NO - the provers number CS - Cured or alleviated symptom XXX - the potency OS - Old symptom, not in last year. DD - the day of proving

HH - the hour of day (for day 0 only) M – Meeting for discussion after one month.

O. A. Julian also proved DNA from 1970 to 1972. 30 people took part in the proving, all were doctors and out of the group, 4 were women. Julian used single blind method and he used 3x, 7c, 30c and placebo. Some Belgian homoeopaths did some clinical research work n the indications that developed during proving.

Jenaer conducted brief experiment on DNA. He observed that DNA seemed to be having an effect on hard tumours and so prepared it in homeopathic potencies. Results were so promising that Jenaer carried out a series of DNA provings. Of particular interest are the effects produced on the skin - pimples in nose, dermatitis, eczema etc as well as recurrent outbreaks of the herpes virus, including classic viral symptoms of asthenia and leucopenia.

It is interesting to note that Phillip Robin’s proving has been corroborated by Julian.

Introduction

Double stranded DNA

Deoxyribonucleic acid or DNA is a nucleic acid that contains the genetic instructions used in the development and functioning of all known living organisms (with the exception of RNA viruses). The main role of DNA molecules is the long-term storage of information. DNA is often compared to a set of blueprints, like a recipe or a code, since it contains the instructions needed to construct other components of cells, such as proteins and RNA molecules.

DNA - microscopic picture

DNA: Microscopic structure

DNA is found in all living cells from bacteria and viruses, to plants, animals and humans.

It is the basic unit of life. It is the

carrier of all genetic material. DNA is the structured chemical molecule that is used to store, replicate and pass on the individual genetic character of one individual to the next individual i.e. generation.

It goes, hence, a long way to defining one’s individual nature and characteristics.

DNA is made up of the elements carbon, oxygen, phosphorus, nitrogen and hydrogen.

Basic Chemical compounds

  • Phosphoric acid
  • Sugar (Deoxyribose)

  • 4 Nitrogenous bases –
    • 2 purines: adenine and guanine
    • 2 pyrimidines :  thymine and cytosine

DNA is made up of a few relatively simple chemical building blocks that are joined to one another in sequence by means of chemical bonds, called as nucleotides. Each nucleotide is made up of a phosphate group, a sugar and a nitrogen containing base. Within a DNA molecule the nucleotides are bonded in such a way that the sugar of one nucleotide is always attached to the phosphate group of the next nucleotide in line. This arrangement results in two long chains of alternating sugar and phosphate groups that join to form a double helix structure. The two strands are joined in the middle by weak chemical bonds between the bases. Within this double helix is encoded all the information necessary for a cell to synthesize the proteins it needs to survive and reproduce. If the two strands of a DNA molecule are separated by breaking the weak bonds between the bases, then each single chain provides all the information necessary to synthesize a new partner. DNA is thus capable of self replication.

All the elements carbon, oxygen, phosphorus, nitrogen and hydrogen are mirrored in DNA in one way or the other.

Philosophical issues

Phillip Robins has not only conducted the proving of DNA, but tried to explain the proving data with universal symbolism.

Shiva, the Destroyer

We all know that Brahma is the creator of the Universe, Vishnu, the preserver of the world and Shiva, the destroyer who represents both destruction and reproduction. Shiva takes three forms, one of which is Kali, the bringer of disease, strife and war. Shiva is also commonly worshipped in the form of a linga (phallic symbol) and is often shown united in one body with his goddess - she the left side, and he the right. It is not only a symbol of sexual union but is a familiar icon of the mystery of non-duality. It is also an abstract symbol of the divine connubium through which the world is simultaneously generated and dissolved. Shiva is a representation of the ‘whole’ or oneness of life. So Shiva can be linked to DNA because he represents the cycle of time, mortality, disease, birth and death and renewal and reproduction. Most importantly through the Shiva’s representative form, the linga, we are reminded that all life is one and that DNA is a central part of this ‘whole’ cosmic force or divine principle.

                Evolution

DNA is a kind of Father Time, holding our genetic inheritance and possibly disposing us to diseases or death at pre-determined times in our lives. The sickle of time is a symbol of both death and renewal, of continuity as season follows season. It gives us awareness of the finite number of years we have to live. If we are to use the full potential of these years we need to commit ourselves to what we value as important.

One of the supervisors who sat in the group of provers while they took their remedies had a vision at that time of cow dung. Her prover later reported injuring her back shovelling cow manure and these two events stirred the curiosity of this person to look for some connection between cow dung and DNA. The following is what she discovered.

Cow, the symbolic of seven mothers

The Cow dung

The cow is sacred to the Hindu culture in India. It is symbolic of one of the seven mothers i.e. Goddess Aditi, Mother of Gods, was a cow. She was Lord of Truth and Universal order. Krishna, who was the 8th avatar of Vishnu (incarnation of God) was the protector of the cow. The whole universe was contained in him and he came disguised in a cowherd. Shiva’s consort was the bull Nandi, who produces the celestial music for the cosmic dance of Shiva. Shiva is one of the three Gods in Brahman - the supreme being or absolute spirit of Hinduism. Cow dung was the more particular image that arose for the supervisor and it has a related but more subtle connection to DNA. The dung beatle (or Scarab) in Egypt is a symbol of both the Sun’s cycle and resurrection. The Egyptian hieroglyphic of the scarab with legs outstretched corresponds to the verb kheper, meaning something like ‘to come into existence by assuming a given form’. Scarabs were also worn as cheap protective amulets, for the insect had concealed in himself the power of eternal renewal of life. Thus, also the beatle associated with cow dung has symbolism connected with DNA. It is interesting to see that Paracelsus was notorious for his appreciation of the meaning and power of excrement as a primordial and basic substance. He understood the primal nature of excrement as the beginning of all things and its vital role in the cycle of creation and decay, it is the matter from which all things come and that which everything becomes. Similarly, DNA is a starting point of sorts from which new ‘things’ come into being.

It is interesting to note prover’s dream about black and white elephants having ‘an extraordinary’ baby elephant. Shiva and his personified energy in the form of his wife Parvati had a child with an elephant head called Ganesh. Ganesh was known as the Lord of Obstacles and of Knowledge. We know that knowledge is the only answer to overcome obstacles. DNA has the same theme. He wants to be after knowledge. He is a truth seeker and he wants take up extra-responsibilities and to discharge them. He uses his intellectual faculties to overcome obstacles.

The same prover dreamt of a large rat under a building, and Ganesh’s vehicle is the rat. See that all these animal symbols that is a part of proving should not be neglected. They are connected with each other as a unit and they represent deep action which DNA is able to demonstrate. In India the bull is symbolic of the creating God Brahma and has been generally regarded as a symbol of the creative power and energy of God, the source of fertility and productive energy in the earth. In the cosmology of various cultures the bull is seen in the very foreground of the picture. There is an important terra-cotta plaque from ancient Sumer c.2500 BC that shows the ever-dying, ever-living lunar bull, consumed through time by the lion-headed solar eagle. His right foreleg is placed squarely on the centre of the mound symbolic of the summit of the cosmic mountain, i.e. the body of the Goddess Earth. This is the mythic lunar bull, lord of the rhythm of the universe, to whose song all mortality is dancing in a round of birth, death and new birth. Cow dung was the more particular image that arose for the supervisor and it has a related but more subtle connection to DNA.

DNA can be damaged by many sorts of mutagens, which change the DNA sequence. Mutagens include oxidizing agents, alkylating agents and also high-energy electromagnetic radiation such as ultraviolet light and X-rays. The type of DNA damage produced depends on the type of mutagen. For example, UV light can damage DNA by producing thymine dimers, which are cross-links between pyrimidine bases.

DNA is one of the basic remedies of our materia medica. It needs a wider use in clinical practice. A coordinated study will make the conceptual image of this drug more operational at bedside.

SENSITIVE. BACKWARD. SCLEROTIC. CANCEROUS. DEPRAVED.

ALLERGIC. NEURALGIC. GLANDULAR.

Highlights:

Hot tempered, nervous disposition. Depraved (like Bufo, Carc). Physical and psychological slowness.  Backwardness. Down syndrome. Children and adolescents mentally idiotic but sexually precocious. Children who are sincere but can’t perform due to confusion. Cancerous conditions. General hypersensibility with asthenia. Difficulty in working, then psychological improvement as soon as the body fatigue wears off. Psoric and allergic constitution. Walks with tick, kicks her leg out involuntarily; was born with it. Useful in auto-immune disorders, immuno-compromised cases. The cells in the brain that carry the messages don’t work. Helpful in spina bifida (if given before birth). Good for genetic damage in male reproductive area. Born with extra chromosome. Libido increased or decreased.

Personality

A knowledge hunter (like Sul); thirst – for knowledge is so intense that he becomes committed to be after it and to do necessary work (Aur). Uses all his force for achieving the targets. A truth seeker. Often takes up challenges beyond his capacities and suffers from responsibilities (Carc). He knows very well his needs but still torn between emotions and duties. Need to hold the situation and hence has to be rigid and strong (Carc), lest he will lose the control.

Duality; confident and courageous but emotionally vulnerable and timid (like Lyc). Fear of ghosts (Phos), of accident (Arg-n). Failures make him indecisive, anxious, and restless. Anxiety is diffuse (Kali-c) and is associated with fears. Apprehensive.

Wants to maintain relations. Wants to keep the relations long lasting. Cut off relations produce isolated feeling but he doesn’t like to blame others. Fear-anxiety-restlessness-isolation, produce the state where he develops the feeling ‘wants to go home’ (like Bry). But Bry has this feeling out of insecurity and Bry is dry (mentally and physically) while DNA has attachment – commitment and at home he can drain himself smoothly.

DNA needs warmth and affection and the proving have yielded > warmth and massage. Affectionate (like Carc), but not passionate (unlike Lach). DNA chain has to be strong for survival, for attachment and any groove, any weakness, any break, any weak link could produce disintegration and could have devastating effects manifested at three basic levels: Form, Function and Structure.

DNA is indicated for the one who has lost his soulmate or the dear one. He feels forsaken but without blaming others and does not take it personally (Lac humonum takes it personally).

It is interesting to note that DNA doesn’t get nasty or possessive in relations though he needs relations badly. It is here that venoms like snakes or spiders make difference. Venoms are more pushing and uncontrolled in relations. Rather the feeling for DNA is ‘I can’t stand up for myself. Everybody pushes me around’. It is here that he gets a strong feeling of being abandoned. Carc and Magnesium group in general come closer here.

Hates his self-image on looking in the mirror. This is a process of self-denial. Natrum mur and Lac can should be differentiated.

Swinging of mood. Emotional instability.

Delusions

·         He will break in two and lower half won’t be able to walk.

·         Birth of an extraordinary elephant.

·         Sees big rat that it could eat puppy.

·         That he is playing with serpents hanging from the ceiling.

·         Sees group of 3 friendly yellow snakes, but they won’t bite.

The first delusion is more related to fear of breaking the relations. The second and third delusions have already been discussed. Serpents indicate the sexual and spiritual side and they have much to do with DNA.

DNA could be an important drug for competition spirit.

Reflections on remedy relations

DNA is closely related to nosodes esp. Carc, Med, Tub and Syph.

Carc is a twin brother of DNA. Both have family tree of multi-miasmatic diseases esp. syphilitic; both have past history of multi-infections, both share sense of responsibility and both take on responsibilities beyond their capacities; both stick up to honesty and both want to keep up harmonious relations with others. Carc is more balanced than DNA, DNA is emotionally unstable.

Med is sycotic DNA. It shares backwardness, dwarfism, mongolism and early sexual awakening of adolescents. Both are inquisitive, vivacious, touchy and restless.

Tub is precursor to DNA in the sense that when tubercular miasm activates the latent miasmatic activity and there is no response to Tub, one can think to interpolate a dose of DNA to control the fundamental miasmatic or genetic energy.

Syph is counterpart of DNA. When the syphilitic miasmatic activity has started influencing the system and structural damage has been caused, DNA has to be thought of.

There are many remedies that put soul in their work.  DNA is one of them. Other remedies are Carc, Caust and Sil. Sulph and Lyc are also sincere but they are charlatan. Lyc has fear of responsibility while DNA accepts challenges beyond his capacities. Lyc keeps a distance and maintains his space in relations. DNA finds it difficult to cut off relations. Lyc has discrepancy between body and mind, body is weak though mind is keen.

Truth seeker group: Carc, Caust, Sil, Lyc, Sulph. Carc is honest and wants to explore nature, spirituality etc. Caust engages himself in social work and tries to find out who is responsible for injustice. Sil is refined and is after spiritual truth.  He avoids and fears being engaged in deceitful acts. Lyc is of many types. Idealistic Lyc engages himself in being a truth seeker. Non-idealistic and pseudo-intellectual Lyc spends his energy in pompous behavior and in fondling his high-self image.

In industriousness or mania for work, think of Aurum group in general along with DNA. But Aurums are depressive and if they experience failure in work, they get deeply disappointed and develop suicidal disposition. Some new remedies for study: Brachy-s (Brachypelma smithi i.e. Mexican redknee tarantula), Plut-n (Plutonium nitricum), Lacer (Lacerta agilis i.e.  Sand lizard), Scorp (Scorpio europaeus i.e. European scorpion), and Van-p (Vanilla planifolia from the family Orchidaceae). Brachy-s’s workaholicness is a kind of spider agility. Plut-n is like Arg-n, the nitricum element plays a role of panic, threatening state of the mind and severe anxiety that drive the patient to maniacal work. Lacer works as if absorbed and doesn’t pay attention to the world outside.  Scorp possesses enormous energy to work and is driven by competitiveness and Vanilla’s mania for work is for the sake of his high self image which he tries desperately to maintain.

Phos is more spontaneous and open than DNA. Both are intuitive and affectionate. Both reciprocate love and there is always give and take relationship.

Compare also: Aeth (idiocy), Bar-c (idiocy, glandular, confusion), Bufo (backward, epilepsy, depraved, sexually active), Anac (bipolarity-Anac has two wills-rather two impulses- concept and is explicitly destructive. It lacks in morality while DNA is opposite, it follows morality in a rigid manner).

Antidote: Sep.

Summary

  • An important multi – miasmatic remedy of great potentiality. I call it as one of the basic remedies of human species that have to carry on the miasmatic forces.
  • One of the neglected intercurrents. When a case comes to standstill and there is no improvement even with well selected remedies, think of DNA.
  • Indicated when more genetic load is present in a case.
  • Activation of the fundamental miasm in an otherwise calm case where a case is marching ahead to progressive pathology, think of DNA.
  • To be considered in auto-immune disorders.
  • Must be considered in cases of cancer, mangolism, manic-depressive psychosis, psoriasis, tumors and cysts, leukemia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoporosis, hyperthyroidism / hypothyroidism, obesity, bulimia, hormonal disorders, immunity diseases, arteriosclerosis etc.

Life Space

I live with my wife and children. I have two brothers and five sisters. I am the youngest. After 10th I did ITI and started working at twenty years of my age. Our economical condition was poor. Elder brother was not paying attention towards us.

I was a ranker student from 1st to 10th std.

I was studious. But we were not able to afford for higher studies.

I do my work with full dedication and commitment.

Sometimes, I feel alone and sad. I can’t narrate the exact cause but it happens. I have two daughters. We were very upset when expecting a male child at a third time and wife got aborted. It was very painful to me.

I take care that they should not have any problem in their life.

My brother keeps away from us. He does not wish to take on the responsibility and is concerned about himself only. In the last few years, he has completely lost contact with us for no reason at all. I do not expect anything from him. But I wish he been there for us. I feel all alone sometimes.

I want everything in time. When I want tea and do not get it in time, I get angry. Whatever work I decide, I try to do it in time. Before work I feel anxious whether I will be able to finish it or not. Sometimes my brain stops working and I don’t understand what is going on. I can’t understand what to do. There is some kind of confusion. I get frustrated.

I was a bit reluctant to invest money in construction line but for the word and respect of my friends, I invested.

I did not give a second thought to it. I don’t like to keep strained relations with anyone. I like people. I like company. If I like some people, I will do anything to maintain relations with them; lest I feel they are estranging me.

I entered into construction business three years ago along with my friends. I invested 3 lac rupees. But it didn’t work. I sustained a loss of 6 lac Rs. I was deceived by my partners. But I do not blame them. It was my destiny.

I tried my level best as I do everything from the depth of my heart. I became very anxious and restless.

I decided to leave the town and go to my village to do farming. But my wife was not in that favor. Now I repent why I entered into a different field of construction. Since that loss, I have lost my confidence. And now I fear making decisions also. Whether I will be right or wrong?  Will I suffer again?

Dispositions

Life through hardship

Intelligent

Anxious before work

Committed to work

Takes challenges beyond his capabilities

Emotionally vulnerable

Indecisive (from failure)

Cut off relations with brothers; hence lonely / Isolated feeling

Remedy Selection: DNA

Reasons

DNA patient is very committed to his work. He will do it with utmost sincerity and dedication. But at times he becomes audacious and makes decisions that make him repent later on. The patient invested a huge amount of money in the construction business though a novice in that field. After sustaining failure, he became indecisive and anxious. Now he is unable to take on the responsibilities.

In spite of having an elder brother, the patient took up the responsibility of the family at a very early age. His brother pays no attention to the patient’s matters and maintains no contact with him. This has created isolated feeling in the patient.

DNA is the basic carrier of all genetic information encoded in its structure. Every part and part of it has a basis and speaks for itself. Similarly the DNA patient talks much about himself, his structure as I am like this, I am like that, I like this etc. The interview ran in this way.

Differential Remedy

Carcinocinum

Carc people also have history of taking too much of responsibility. But Carc patient is thoughtful in making decisions. He may take on more and more responsibilities. But he will stick up to his rationality, as the theme is perfection.

Final Prescription: DNA 200 -1 dose

Follow-up

There was no marked change for 4 weeks. One morning he found that scales have fallen off and thickness has much reduced. Itching has also considerably reduced.

The case was followed for one year with a good improvement.
